I'm working again.
For over a year now, I've been connected with a transport services company based in nearby Laguna Province, south of Manila. The income isn't much, just enough for us to get our second wind.
But it's a weekend and I'm at home with my family. Time with them has always been and will always be important to me.
After the three of us have a good breakfast together on Saturday, Arjanne and I go out to have her bike fixed; both its wheels were always flat so she could not use it for the longest time. Kathy stayed behind to do some housekeeping. The weather was just excellent - blue skies and cool breeze. Wonderful time to be outside with my daughter. I walk the bike and Arjanne rides her scooter.
It takes us about ten minutes to get to the shop. It's small; just a 1 square meter structure on the side of the road. As the bike is being fixed, I explain to Arjanne what's being done. She seems interested enough in what I'm sharing with her. It's funny when I think about how I am trying to assert my fatherhood - the hero; the person to be admired and looked up to because he knows it all - well almost.
We're standing on the roadside and Arjanne occasionally hugs me. Not minding that people are walking by. It's a great feeling, of course.
When the bike is finally fixed, Arjanne challenges me to a race back home; she on the bike and me on the scooter. It was hard trying to catch my breath afterward because we were laughing all the way.
This Sunday morning I'm awakened as I hear Arjanne going downstairs. She's probably going to watch cartoons. A bit later, I get up and join her. We both lie on the sofa enjoying two whole hours of Justice League and Batman shows. Kathy comes down soon and we have breakfast.
I'm happy that we have this time together.
